Parnells Gaelic Football Club
Greenford : Saturday September 13th
The Semi Finals and final of the London U-10
football Championship were played in front
of a good attendance and in bright sunshine.
Teams participating in the Semi Finals were
Round Towers V Tir Chonaill Gaels
Thomas Mc Curtains V Parnells.
For Parnells this was a replay following a game some
weeks ago when their first effort resulted
in a two goals each draw.
This game was just as tense as the drawn game as
Parnells set nerves jangling among their
supporters, nerves that would be well tested before the
day was out.
Parnells opened the scoring with an early point, this
was followed by a goal from
Thomas Mc Curtains who then added a few more scores to
put Parnells on the back foot.
Following a few words from team coach John O Sullivan
at half time, Parnells started
to show some flair as their lines linked up to create
some good chances and urged on
by their supporters two goals in quick succession had
the two sides even.
From there on it was end to end football with Parnells
showing an extra bit of grit which
rewarded them with their winning point, Parnells were
through to the Final .

The second semi final between Tir Chonaill Gaels and Round
Towers resulted in an entertaining
draw at the end of full time, with extra time played Round Towers
were through to the Final.
The Final
Having watched two tight
semi finals, supporters were treated to a rollercoaster final which
even the most relaxed of of visitors enjoying the
sunshine of Tir Chonaill Park were put through
every emotion that can be had at a game of football.
Round Towers opened the scoring with a point which was
followed shortly by a Parnells goal.
Opportunities came Parnells way but with most wasted
Round Towers took hold of the game
with a goal and a point.
Again a half time talk from John O Sullivan was
required, with some clear and easy to understand
guidelines.

Two great teams entertain an anxious attendance :
John O Sullivan has a quite word with his team :

Its not easy to get passed a determined Parnells Team :
The second half started much as the first
ended, with Round Towers tightening their grip of
the game, the concession of some easy frees added to
Parnells task as the free kicks were
converted to scores by the sharp shooting Round Towers.
With five minutes left and Parnells trailing, many who
were there felt that this game was
slipping away.
However two goals from Parnells showed their supporters that
this is a team that does not
surrender and now four points up looked home and dry.
Again Round Towers fought back, reducing Parnells margin to
one point with a fantastic
long range goal.
For what seemed like an eternity both teams played the last
two minutes with great courage
and skill, leaving those who watched the game feel like
nervous wrecks, it was with relief
the referee's whistle sounded a victory for Parnells the
score being 3.02 to 2.04.
" Its what we came for "
